Christmas spirit is felt in Intramuros through giving back to the community. Spearheaded by Director Benjo Santos M. Benavidez, the 200 kids of less fortunate families of Barangay 655, Intramuros, Manila are treated to a sumptuous meryenda of spaghetti and puto as the Bureau of Labor Relations (BLR) initiated a Feeding Program last Friday (05 December 2014).
The concept of the feeding program was inspired by the DOLE’s 81st Anniversary theme “Higit pa sa Tagumpay at Reporma, ang DOLE mas Makabuluhan, mas Nadarama.” True enough, the BLR went out of its normal functions to the service of giving to the community. Extra gift bags are also given to 50 indigenous families living in Barangay 655.
In order to help the jobseeker population of the barangay, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials such as the Employment Guide for Jobseekers and Students are distributed at the local barangay office. These publications are part of the Bureau’s Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES) advocacy.
“We are thankful that the BLR picked our barangay for its feeding program. We are also thankful for the IEC materials they gave. It will be a very useful guide for those who are looking for jobs.” Pedrito M. Yacub, the barangay chairman said.
