The Bureau of Labor Relations conducted a learning session on “ASEAN Financial Integration for Federation and Labor Organizations in the Banking Industry” on April 29, 2015 at the Labor Governance Learning Center (LGLC), DOLE Building, Intramuros, Manila.
The learning session was organized to enhance the awareness of officers and members of federations and labor organizations in the banking industry on the ASEAN Financial Integration. Mr. Alvin D. Gamat, Bank Officer IV of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, comprehensively discussed the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint, as well as the concept and impact of ASEAN Financial Integration on the Philippine banking sector.
Director Benjo Santos M. Benavidez adjudged the undertaking a success because it recognized the importance of social dialogue and provided a forum to discuss the issues and implications of integration for employers and employees in the Philippine banking industry. He also added that the activity is part of a much larger program as the DOLE continuously identify the necessary interventions to ensure that the rights of workers are not compromised.“Tayo po ay kailangang maghanda at makipagugnayan sa mga concerned agencies sa nalalapit na ASEAN integration para sa mga isyu patungkol sa paggawa sa industriya ng bangko,“ he said.
The Philippine government is currently taking initiatives and measures to prepare the local financial market for the ASEAN Economic Community which aims to establish a regional economic integration through which ASEAN member states shall transform into a region with free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labor and capital. The AEC envisions an integrated financial and capital markets.
