A series of Technical Learning Sessions on occupational safety and health standards and technical safety inspection kicked off on May 21, 2015 at the Occupational Safety and Health Center, in Diliman, Quezon City. The Bureau of Labor Relations (BLR) in coordination with the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) and Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) organized the series of learning sessions to enhance the awareness of stakeholders on occupational safety and health standards and technical safety inspection.
Approximately 40 participants comprised of members and officers of labor unions and labor federations from Metro Manila participated in the activity. Engr. Nelia Granadillos (OSHC), Engr. Concepcion Sto. Tomas (OSHC) and Dr. Jehremias Florante (OSHC) discussed the occupational safety and health standards, OSH related issuances, policies, programs, and guidelines. Engr. Constante Viloria (BWC) and Engr. Ma. Cristina De Guzman (BWC) lectured on technical safety inspection. They emphasized the importance of ensuring safety and health at the workplace.
Division Chief Mr. Jerome P. Yanson said that the activity seeks to enrich the awareness of labor federations and unions on ensuring workers’ occupational safety and health to prevent injuries and occupational hazards.
He added that the activity highlights the advocacy and commitment of DOLE to remain steadfast in its mandate to promote occupational safety and health towards achieving decent work for all.
The activity also provided an opportunity to discuss issues and challenges in the implementation of occupational safety and health standards. The event is the first of an eight-part series of learning session to be conducted this 2015. The next sessions are scheduled on June 5 and 26, July 10 and 31, August 14 and 28 and September 11 and 25. Interested participants may contact Mr. Roland C. Nobleza or Ms. Adoracion I.
