The Bureau of Labor Relations conducted certification election among the rank-and- file employees of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) on August 25, 2015. Atty. Marie Claire Therese C. Lambino, as the overall Election Officer, supervised the activity along with six (6) personnel each from the BLR and DOLE Regional Office No. III.
The election was held at SBMA Gymnasium with eight (8) precincts.1,750 out of 2,709 rank-and-file employees cast their votes in the huge undertaking. The contending unions were the SBMA Employees Association (SBMA-SEA) (as the petitioner), SBMA Employees Labor Association (SBMA-ELA), and No Union.
Dir. Benjo Santos Benavidez recognized the help and efforts extended by DOLE Regional Office No. III headed by Director Ana C. Dione and Asst. Regional Director Geraldine M. Panlilio and the SBMA Management for a clean, honest and peaceful certification election.
The right of the people, including those employed in the public and private sectors, to form union, associations, or societies is a constitutionally guaranteed right. In the public sector, Executive Order No. 180 issued by then President Corazon C. Aquino on June 1, 1987 gives flesh to this guarantee. The Bureau of Labor Relation stakes pride in its active role in the realization of this constitutional right.
