The Bureau of Labor Relations (BLR) joins the nation in celebrating the 2016 National Women’s Month Celebration in March. This year’s theme is “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda!”.
The BLR has lined up a series of activities, which include learning session on elimination of violence against women and children, basic training on self-defense for women, and health awareness seminar for prevention of common ailments through natural medicine.
The theme focuses on the call for gender-balance in leadership and decision making positions both in public and private sector; inclusion of women’s concerns in leadership platforms and the government’s development agenda; and capacitating and preparing women and girls to reach their ambitions.
The Women’s Month Celebration was instituted through Republic Act No. 6949 on April 10, 1990 declaring March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day. It also aimed to give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in the society.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) was designated to lead and coordinate the series of activities for the National Women’s Month Celebration. For further details and schedule of activities or events for the 2016 Women’s Month Celebration, log on to www.pcw.gov.ph.
