BLR Director Benjo Santos M. Benavidez attended the ASEAN 9th Senior Labour Officials Meeting (SLOM) on Progressive Labour Practices to Enhance the Competitiveness at the Mercure Vientiane Hotel in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 23-24 November 2016.
The event intended to update the progress of labour practices, share experiences and seek ways for cooperation towards the competitiveness of ASEAN. Likewise, it aimed to discuss the status of the projects since the 8th SLOM-WG Meeting, which was held in Manila in 2015 and the progress of the implementation of the SLOM WG Work Plan 2016-2020.
Part of the discussion was upgrading the skills and abilities of the labor force in the ASEAN region. In response to this call, technical assistance was being considered and could be extended to member countries as they develop and improve their respective labor market information systems and skills qualifications frameworks.
“We shall continue to share our initiatives, experiences and best practices in promoting decent work and competitive enterprises to make the ASEAN economic community a reality,” Dir. Benavidez said.
