The Bureau of Labor Relations organized Awareness raising and outreach activities for “Girl Child Week and the Women with Disability Day”, which are both celebrated within Women’s Month under Proclamation No.759, s. of1996.
The said activities were conducted on March 29, 2023, with the theme: Strong Girls, Strong World: “Protecting Girls’ Rights and Well-being in the Face of Adversity” in support of the #StrongGirlsStrongWorldPH! Campaign for the 2023 Girl-Child Week.
For this year’s celebration, the BLR personnel conducted an advocacy campaign on #StrongGirlsStrongWorldPH at Brgy 654, 657 and 655, Zone 70, Intramuros Manila. The Bureau’s personnel under the leadership of Director Maria Consuelo S. Bacay distributed hygiene kits and food packs to 120 less-fortunate children, women with a disability, and senior citizens in the said area. The activities are aimed at protecting girls’ rights and well-being in the face of adversity and upholding the BLR’s advocacy in promoting the rights of persons with disability and senior citizens at work.
After the distribution of food packs and hygiene kits, the focal persons of the recipients – Josefina Mangan and Eva Velasquez expressed their joy and gratitude to DOLE-BLR and its Director, personnel and staff for their gesture of kindness, generosity and care extended to the less fortunate dwellers of Intramuros especially the children, senior citizens and the persons with disability of the said community.
The Bureau’s observance of the Girl Child Week is in compliance with the request to all government agencies by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) to support the celebration of the Protection and Gender Fair Treatment of the Girl-Child week as per Memorandum dated 17 March 2023, issued by Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez, encouraging all DOLE Offices and its Attached Agencies to support the #StrongGirlsStrongWorldPH! Campaign for the 2023 Girl-Child Week.
