Philippine Standard Time:

The Workers’ Organization Development Program (WODP) is a highly beneficial initiative that extends educational assistance to registered Labor Organizations in the form of scholarships and training. Underscoring its continuous success, the program has recently approved two (2) new scholars affiliated with the Union of Filipino Employees- Drug, Food, and Allied Workers Federation (UFE-DFA-KMU).

On July 26, 2023, Mr. Roland Nobleza, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of the Bureau of Labor Relation (BLR), conducted an Orientation for the UFE-DFA-KMU’s new scholars via the online platform ‘Zoom.’ During the orientation, the scholars received comprehensive insight into the program’s benefits, essential conditions, and requirements to become successful grantees of the WODP. The orientation also served as a warm commendation of their approval for the Isabelo Delos Reyes (IDR) Scholarship, making them the 3rd and 4th ongoing scholars under the program for the year 2023.

Participating in the Zoom orientation were Ms. Elaine Angelica C. Cruz and Ms. Cherylle Ann T. Marasigan, accompanied by their fathers, Mr. Erwin E. Cruz and Mr. Arman S. Marasigan, respectively, who are bona fide members of UFE-DFA-KMU.

Ms. Cruz is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and is in her second year at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. On the other hand, Ms. Marasigan is a third-year college student at the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, specializing in Bachelor of Science in Aviation Electronic Technology.

Notably, both Mr. Cruz and Mr. Marasigan are among the more than 600 dismissed employees of Nestle Philippines. In response to their situation, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has stepped in to assist, following the recommendation of the ILO High-Level Mission. The mission advocates exploring unconventional approaches to address long-standing cases and aims to find satisfactory resolutions for those affected by the dismissals.

The Orientation conducted by Mr. Nobleza marks the commencement of the new scholars’ journey under the WODP program. Through this, they can anticipate comprehensive educational support and opportunities to further their personal and professional development.
